I can't paint

This is something I hear often when I tell people I'm an artist. As a kindergarten teacher my role is to encourage learning through exploration and supporting children that say "I can't". Maybe the adults that tell me they can't paint weren't encouraged, or didn't have an opportunity to explore this creative process in their childhood. The thing is, in mho, if you can hold a paint brush, dip it in colour and splosh it on a surface you are painting! 

I can hear the objections!... but my painting doesn't look like anything, it's not right, I don't know what I'm doing, I'm not trained to paint etc etc...

If you want to give it a go that's enough to make a start. No-one can produce an Archibald winning painting from the first time they pick up a brush. Learning to paint can happen without formal education (Henri Rousseau and Vincent Van Gogh for example).  You just need a bit of confidence to step out of your belief system of "I can't"... and with some guidance either one to one, or with like-minded friends let creativity through colour begin!
