I Am An Artist

I always was but I didn’t think it was a legitimate or sustainable career choice. I now know that this was because of things said to me at a young age that I took onboard as being the truth. My realisation that this belief was rubbish came after nearly 2 years of creating art and people buying it.  I was still saying “you can’t live off your art…and I’m self taught so I’m not good enough” when a good friend of mine told me about her brother, also self-taught, totally smashing his way in the art world.

Hearing this was my wake up call, why the hell wasn’t I believing I could do this?!!! I actually got pretty p/d off with myself for taking so long to acknowledge this false belief. I’ve wanted to be an artist since I could hold a pencil!

So I quit my day job in November,  relocated to regional Victoria with my dog, some clothes and my painting stuff, lived with  awesome friends for 10 weeks in Gisborne, then moved to beautiful freezing cold Kyneton haha. I threw myself into getting to know people in the community, making connections with gallery owners and finding things to get involved in to become part of the town.

I was so stoked when I found out that the organiser of the Kyneton farmers market had a feature story run in the Tourist News and in the local paper! I was so busy painting and entering competitions and preparing for my market gig that I didn’t know or expect the promotion that happened. The life-change was happening!
